Clickbank is a digital marketing company which showcases a vast collection of thousands of virtual products and digital opportunities that you can choose to promote on your website.
When you promote virtual products and opportunities you can usually earn much higher commissions than if you were to promote physical products. As an affiliate for Clickbank for example, you can earn up to 75% commission on each sale depending on the product.
Clickbank is desirable to online marketers because of the vast nature of it along with high commission rates. It’s possible to make quite a lot of money with consistent and effective promotion of the products.
There is a Clickbank product for every niche you can think of.
How Does It Work?
It’s free to join and you don’t even need a website to be approved. You can promote the products from the marketplace in numerous other ways (such as article marketing and social media) using the custom links they assign you.
At the top of the homepage when you sign in is the link named “Marketplace”. When you go there and are looking at the marketplace dashboard you can see the many categories of products to choose from.
When you select a product to promote, you will be provided with a Clickbank affiliate link that contains a unique code assigned only to you. This code ensures that you and only you will be paid for all sales made through it.
Promoting the link, this can be done in several different ways. I recommend using the links on a website that you build yourself.
The simplest way is to write detailed reviews of the products and opportunities. This creates good, helpful content for your website.
It’s important that you don’t just blast your links randomly all over, most people will not respond when spammed with links of all sorts. You can actually get yourself in legal trouble doing that too. No one likes a spammer.
As well, other website owners will not approve your comment if it’s not relevant or respectful to their sites.
There’s a bit of lingo that goes with Clickbank but it’s quick to understand.
The Marketplace is where you find the database of the thousands of vendors with digital products. These vendors are looking for people to promote them.
Getting familiar with what the terms mean on a product listing will help you quickly sift through to the more profitable products and not use up too much time on the thousands of possibilities that are catalogued there.
You choose the ones you like or the ones relevant to your site and then apply the links assigned to you on your site in various ways. Each product company usually has an affiliate tools page where you can get banners and other resources to help your promotion efforts.
You’ll earn a commission when someone clicks through your links to buy the product. Simple as that.
Clickbank Product Listing
This is what a Clickbank product listing looks like. It gives you the quick run down of the product and the current stats that go along with it. You can choose to promote it right away or save it to your favorites list for use at a later time.
If you want to promote it now, just click the “Promote” button and obtain your link now. Another box will pop up right away that looks like this:
It’s a chance for you to add a tracking code to your Clickbank link. The tracking code is for you to keep track of where your sales are coming from if you are promoting the same product in many locations.
Even if you choose to skip adding a tracking code, make sure your “Account Nickname” is filled in!
How Your Links Look
It’s better to use the provided link that has your CB name hidden in it. It’s not easy for your affiliate tracking code to be removed from it. It looks like a mess to us but the computer understands it.
Product Stats Breakdown
Grav(ity): This is a unique metrics calculation found only in Clickbank that reflects the number of affiliates that have made a commission from the sale of that product in the last 12 weeks. The higher the number means more sales are happening and product popularity is good but it also means higher competition.
Initial $ /Sale: This is the dollar amount that an affiliate earns for the first sale of this product.
Avg % /Sale: This number shows the average commission rate earned through sales of all of the vendors products, including the initial sale, all rebills and all upsells.
Avg $ /Sale: This number (top right corner) equals the average total of the initial sale plus all rebills, divided by the number of initial sales. For every new purchase, this amount is the average you’d make in total over the life of a new customer. This amount is not guaranteed, only estimated.
Time Saving Feature
Once you get yourself comfortable with using the dashboard and navigating around the CB website, you can save yourself a ton of time using the detailed filter feature when searching for products to promote.
This handy tool will help you sort the large number of listings into a focused list of only the products that meet the criteria that you’ve entered into the tool.
For example, when you enter a minimum gravity number, you’re shown a list of products that will be in the appropriate competition level for you. A beginner should not pick something with high competition (high gravity). It’s likely to end in a frustrating experience with not many sales, if any at all.
Or, you can choose to see the most recently added products beginning and ending with any time frame you choose.
These products sometimes have success because they are fresh and new. Many people seek the “latest” of everything.
The same stats that show on the product outline pages are also shown on the feature filter as optional parameters for sorting products as well. Choose ones with a high initial sales figure if you wish, or choose ones with solid, long term payouts.
If all of that weren’t enough, you can also choose to sort the products and opportunities by language and what type of billing the product has.
Select either “One-time” or “Recurring” or even sort and view only the products that have a discount trial offer with them.
Finally, there are sorting options in which you can choose the level of support the company provides for its’ affiliates. It’s all up to you really.
As with most things in life, not all CB products and opportunities are great, some of the products are downright low quality. In a lot of cases this is just a matter of opinion.
I recommend doing a little checking in to the product before you promote it and make sure it has a decent reputation.
Or leave a comment below and I’ll help you figure that out.
I hope this has helped demystify the world of Clickbank a little bit for you. Clickbank is another one of the excellent ways to create an online income stream from home.
